Toscana Café & Wine Bar

One of the most joyful things a foodie can experience is the accidental discovery of a true culinary gem. That happened about two years ago when we were strolling through the Gaslamp and stumbled across Toscana Café & Wine Bar. We’ve been in love ever since.

Located on the corner of 5th and K street, Toscana is family owned and operated and you can tell that from the people who work there. Especially Derrek who is an extraordinary server who recognizes you, even if it’s been a year since you’ve been there. Toscana has a huge selection of wines by the glass and the list is always changing to bring the finest offerings in the area.

I almost always have the Chicken Marsala which is never the same. The Chef is constantly experimenting with fine Marsala’s to find the perfect flavor. Butter, a healthy serving of Mushrooms and Marsala wine combine for silky smooth delight smothering pounded pan-seared Chicken Breast. If that isn’t enough, Toscana adds three massive Crimini Mushroom Tortellini for a thoroughly satisfying meal.

The truffle Lobster Ravioli is also spectacular with its house-made Alfredo Sauce topped with White Truffle Oil. I can still taste the deep and robust flavors just thinking about this dish. Truly remarkable. There are too many other fabulous dishes to describe, but if you have a thing for Shrimp Scampi, you have to try it here. Capers, lots of Garlic, Butter and Roma Tomatoes blend with the tossed spaghetti is divine.

Toscana also has a great breakfast and lunch menu and if the weather permits, ask for the corner table on the patio. Awesome people watching…especially during ComicCon! Give this place a go. You’ll be glad you did and don’t forget to ask for Derrek!

Enjoy!
