Pacific Coast Grill

Ahhh…So what is more perfect than an oceanfront Sunday brunch?  After a Saturday filled with mind numbing Costco runs, garage cleaning and an endless list of honey-dos, you deserve a little Pacific Coast Grill in Cardiff.  Literally so on the beach that you’ll get sand in your shoes, PCG is a fabulous escape.  DO NOT plan on this being a hurried “need to be out in an hour” experience.  Pacific Coast Grill is something to savor.  I love the little strip of eating establishments on PCH with just about everything you can imagine from Los Olivas Mexican to the rustic The Kraken, but pick PCG.

Unlike most ocean front joints, they take reservations.   There were four of us, and no one was looking to be anywhere but there.  The upstairs patio is my preference as you have the sweeping ocean views, but the downstairs is pretty spectacular in its own right.  You can literally feel the spray coming off the waves as you dine.

While the service is a little on the “manana” side, that’s OK.  Who wants to be rushed?  Start with a delicious cappuccino just to get your stamina up.  After your little caffeine jolt, graduate to the Pineapple martini, comprised of grilled pineapple infused Tito’s Vodka with a chili pepper and basil leaf garnish.  Who knew to grill the pineapple first?  The Blackberry Lemonade doesn’t fare too badly either.

The menu here is insane.  I usually can look at offerings and whittle it down to a few pretty easily.  Not here.  I wanted EVERYTHING.  The four of us settled on Lobster Huevos Rancheros, Short Rib Chiliaquiles, the Poke Bowl with seaweed salad and a hearty Filet Mignon breakfast burrito.  While it was a little time in coming, all was sooo worth the wait.  We suffered greatly sipping our Martinis and watching the surf crash before us.

Pacific Coast Grill ain’t cheap, but it won’t compare to what you spent at Costco the day before.  The $5 valet is also super appreciated and very quick.  So treat yourself and just go here.  Block off a few hours and make yourself at home.  Everyone is pretty chill and the Facebook photo opps are sure to have your relatives back east cursing you.  And make sure you book time for a nap.  You’re gonna need it!
