Bleu Boheme 2017

This is by far my favorite French restaurant in San Diego! The charming ambiance with taper candles burning everywhere, complete with a big ball of dripping wax make you feel like you’re someplace romantic and special. I have grown to love table 20 which is in the back just to the right of the bar. An intimate table for two against the stone façade with black soot from the candle crawling up the wall. Really feels like you could be in the French countryside.

The tables are covered in brown paper and are just big enough to lean across and stare your significant other lovingly in the eyes. We went early (5pm) and were delighted to learn of their $30 three course menu served every day until 6 and all day Tuesday. The selections are great and for starters, we had the escargot which is served in a small skillet with a sinfully rich creamy garlic sauce. Make sure you get every last drop of it with their fabulous fresh-from-the -oven bread. We also got the pate’ board with lots of gherkins, olives and two types of pate’. The duck was by far the best as the pistachio was a little too firm and lacked flavor.

Beouf Burguignon was on the menu and I didn’t have to think twice to select that as my entre’. A deep, rich red wine sauce (a little tangy for my taste) with a big chunk of falling apart beef was hearty and perfect for a cold rainy day…even though it was 85 degrees outside. The Salmon was delicious and perfectly cooked to a medium rare.

Desserts of Brioche bread pudding and profiteroles really brought a wonderful experience to a flawless culmination. Service is spot on, and not obnoxious…just thorough and friendly. We started with two extra dry Kettle-One martini’s and then each had a glass on wine for just the right buzz from just the right drinks.

Again..this is one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego and I’d eat there once a week if I could!
